BEHAVIOR
Separation Anxiety
Hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized or abandoned each year. The primary reason is not disease but behavioral problems. The sad fact is that with a little time and effort these problems could have been avoided or resolved.
Pet owners should be aware of two things:
1. Most behavioral problems are created by people, either by neglect or improper training.
Puppies and kittens are not people. Trying to relate to and communicate with them as fellow humans will almost always result in failure. Proper socialization and training procedures beginning the first day a new puppy or kitten comes into the household can avoid most behavioral problems.
Behaviors that are cute or funny in puppies and kittens (rough play, chewing behavior, jumping up, etc.) may not be cute and funny when they become adults. Keep in mind the qualities you hope to enjoy for many years to come. Prevent bad habits by teaching good habits.
2. The old saying, "You can’t teach an old dog (or cat) new tricks", is untrue.
Yes, bad habits can be difficult to break but it can be done if you’re willing learn proper techniques and make the effort
