CONJUNCTIVITIS
Conjunctivitis simply means inflammation of the conjunctiva, the mucous membrane lining the inner surface of the eyelids and the exposed portion of the eyeball. Causes can be infection, allergy or air-borne irritants. Most cases respond to irrigation, lubrication, antibiotics and steroids.
The characteristic redness, discharge, tearing, and squinting must be distinguished, however, from other more serious conditions (corneal ulcers, etc.). Don’t take chances with eyes. Any problems should be checked by your veterinarian.
