DISTICHIASIS
This condition is characterized by hairs that originate from glands on the eyelid margin. They are common in many breeds, including cocker spaniels, Shih tzus, poodles and golden retrievers. If the hairs are soft and fine they usually cause no problem, but if coarse and stiff can cause corneal irritation or ulceration.
If the hairs are causing no discomfort or corneal changes, the condition need not be treated. If indicated, treatment can include periodic plucking, cryosurgical epilation, electroepilation or various surgical excisional techniques.
