OUR EUTHANASIA POLICY
Decisions involving euthanasia are always difficult and sometimes controversial. Everyone has their own opinion about what constitutes a valid reason for euthanasia and sometimes there are no clear right or wrong answers. Euthanasia is not difficult for just the pet owner but also for the veterinarian. All of our training is directed to caring for pets and helping them live a quality life. Our veterinary oath obligates us to place our patient’s wellbeing first. Usually this means medical treatment but sometimes it may mean helping our patient have a peaceful death rather than endure a long, debilitating, painful demise.
Our policy is this. If a pet has a disease that has taken away a quality life and we have no hope of returning that, we feel that euthanasia is a valid option. If we feel that treatment can allow the pet to regain a quality life we will treat our patient but cannot, in good conscience, agree to euthanize.
