Jan, B.A., R.V.T.

I am a Registered Veterinary Technician which means on any given day you might find me doing nursing tasks such as administering medications and treatments, taking x-rays, prepping animals for surgery, assisting during surgery, monitoring patients post-surgery, performing dental prophies, drawing blood or obtaining other specimens for lab tests, running lab tests, doing client education, researching information for our website or carrying out any number of other tasks. The most important part of my job can be spending some quiet time with a patient who is sick or in pain or anxious; ear scratching and little chats can often be the best medicine. I also collaborate with Lilly on her column.

I have worked with Dr. Cram since 1989, but because I spend much of my time with your pets in our treatment area or kennel, I am more likely to recognize your furry friend than I am you. So please forgive me if I have to ask you your name.

To relax, I enjoy reading an eclectic mix of books, dabbling at knitting and beadwork, and flower gardening and landscaping. I'm still trying to figure out how to give up sleeping so I can have time to tackle my list of other interests I'd like to explore.

I have 2 cats that were part of a litter I found in my yard in April, 2007. They were about 4 weeks old and it has been a delight watching them grow up. Boris and Melvin, or The Boys to those who can't tell them apart, do a good job of making me laugh regularly.
